Tracefy App
Solution 1

Tracefy Solo

Project lead - Frontend Developer - Designer

Introduction

One of my biggest projects while working at Tracefy was the creation of the new consumer app.
Tracefy is a Netherlands based company which focuses on anti theft solutions for e-bikes. Their main product is a tracker which which is sold through local bicycle shops. After purchase the customer can download and connect the Tracefy app to their tracker.
The app can be used for viewing the current bike location. But most importantly if the bicycle gets stolen. It can be used to activate Tracefy's recovery service. This means a security team member will go out and recover your bike for you!

Design

Even though my designing experience was lacking at the time. I was also given the task of the design process. This was a lengthy process of doing customer research and collecting data. Multiple design iterations, a brief collaboration with an external designer and starting over from scratch more than once.
Looking back I am very pleased with the clean and modern style.

Development

As an experienced react developer I chose expo (react-native) as my framework for app development. Also before this project I had gained experience with leading two members of an external company on a similar app project using expo. Those devs were from an app agency but had no prior experience with expo nor react. It was up to me to teach them the basics and best practices.
The main screen is a customizable google map which shows the users bike and mobile location along with nearby points of interests. There is also a map bounds button which shifts between the user location and the combined user location along with his Tracefy bicycles. For transitions and simple animations we used the Reanimated library and for complex animations we used Lottie. I have been pleased with the Expo workflow which allows for a really fast and pleasant cross platform mobile development experience. When given the choice I would choose Expo again in the future.
